Anyone else here a fan of this great band? They evolved from the legendary Thrilled Skinny, are Luton-based, and made one of 2009's best albums with Honolulu Suncream:

Adrian: I recommend that you listen/review ASAP. A bit like an instrumental Fall mixed with Link Wray etc. Crunchy riffs and great dynamics. I guarantee you'll like them. Certainly more likely to entertain you than The Stranglers... _________________ Mag: http://www.icecreamforquo.webs.com/

Well, possibly, but... all I can tell from that Myspace is that I won't play them again, ever!
Sorry, Barry. |

Well, all right, that was not very constructive of me. So, here's what I'd rather listen to. Robert Johnson & the Punchdrunks are their name. It's some kind of absurd, electronic surf music... only one song—"Scientifically Raw"—is from my favurite album, "Cinema-Scope-a-Dope", which is also the soundtrack of a film, but they're all pretty good. It's precious stuff.

Seriously? What did you dislike about them? Try 'Zinc'. _________________ Mag: http://www.icecreamforquo.webs.com/

All right. Even already the intro sound isn't cool, only annoying. The un-tightness of it isn't cool either. Maybe it's some Myspace quality thing, but I doubt it. When the song actually kicks off, the one sound I like is the guitar, that is, during his chord playing. The drums sound awful, not just lo-fi. That bass sound—whatever it is—continues to break my balls throughout. There is some energy and drive to it, I'll admit that, but it is just too poorly executed for me to enjoy it. No, my five cents are on Robert Johnson & the Punchdrunks. |
