Alice by Tom Waits won by an absolute mile.
The year in full December 2002 Sounds like The Undertones, The Clash & The Libertines. Sounds good! A truly beautiful thing, and Beck surprises us again. Randy is something special, alright! Tori is alive and well! Scarlet's Walk provides much enjoyment. Dug this one out and loved it. Folk babe does it again? Yeah, she does. There's just something about this record that's staying with me. Unusual? Yes. Good? Yes, it's still good. A change of style after 'Forever Changes' but still good. Yes are becoming like an old favourite coat. November 2002 Well, it's known to longterm readers that The Beach Boys are my number one all time artists. Tori is second. She's second! To The Beach Boys? Yes!! I love Tori, so of course i've bloody been listening to her new album loads. What do you take me for at all?! Eliza is back, back, back! What do you mean you've never heard of her? Dammit! Thanks, Ruth. Celebrate the sun. Celebrate The Polyphonic Spree! Celebrate your mother, and do it well. Don't let the drop fool you. This is glorious, unrepeatable stuff! I listened and liked. And then reviewed. More than interesting stuff, that I still admire and enjoy. Love? The first five or so songs here are all stupendous. Alice runs it's initial course. October 2002 Another great new UK group with absolutely no worldwide profile. They dress in white-robes and sound like a wet-dream. CHA-CHA-CHA CHA CHA! This is stupendous stuff! Album of the year for me, no question. A durable debut from the new kids in Liverpool. Slow to get into this, slow, slow. I'm starting to love it, though. KITTY SING MY SONG! She shouts. And then she whispers. It works. As slow an album as is imaginable, but not without merit. Would have charted higher, but I only got it 6 days ago. The first three songs are all great! September 2002 it seems i have a new favourite who album. a startling mix of styles. reggae and the beach boys, anyone? sandy was no more, but richard was only just getting started! it's still here, dreamy as ever a number of standout tunes help this record no end. a twenty five voice choir with songs influenced by the flaming lips i spent some time listening to this, if only so I could understand it better a big drop, but then we've had five new entries not as good as 'definitely maybe' after all, but still fine. what, Joe's Garage drops? it doesn't sail to number one like other Zappa's have? August 2002 a surprise number one? nah, it's a mighty album tom fails to hold on for a third month it may not be clever, but it's good! very easy to listen to, very enjoyable it sounds magnificent not usually a fan of the group, but this is a fine effort slowly but surely, it's sinking in! i've never really thought so highly of this, but i've been playing it a lot lately riding on the coat-tails of alladin sane.... just arrived, but it sounds strange enough to be good! July 2002 it's dreamy weather..... very heavy, very dark - still melodic. definitely amongst their best work a fine return to form. liam doesn't embarass himself. what more could you want?! absolutely wonderful.... well, all apart from the last song! utterly charming melodies, wonderfully english atmosphere no, it's not quite their best work, but there are at least three classic songs here! forever changes holding on for another month, during it's second charting year. not fully had time to digest this yet. another daft zappa extravaganza! well, they aint stars yet. shame on you all! if this is falling off the chart, it's about time i bought another Yes album! June 2002 he's only gone and done it again! a reversal of the decline? whatever, a great little album. a 'love' affair begins!!! bad pun alert!! an astonishing re-invention of new romantic music with two new albums, one was always gonna get less plays lots of good new records this month i haven't forgotten Yes. i'll get everything soon! the best of the eight bowie albums i bought this month! a split in airplay! a lot better than i was expecting the drop is entirely down to the nature of this months chart May 2002 It's always great when you discover a new favourite band, isn't it? The immortal Little Feat. Re-issued and re-mastered Well, so far - one of the albums of the year. No question What does it amount to? I'm not sure now. Still good though! The last Beatles album I bought. I'm still missing 'Beatles For Sale' The trees, those useless trees, they feel the air, that we are breathing. Low entry due to it's late arrival before this list was compiled. Low entry due to it's late arrival before this list was compiled. Very strange, beatlesque pop. Not had time to digest this yet, but expect a review soon. April 2002 An astonishing debut by a genre transcending new musical talent from Birmingham, England Gets better and better every listen. A fun filled ray of sunshine and also they best thing they've done. Whoa, do I love Yes! For 'Suppers Ready' alone - an astonshing piece of work. Bought this long ago, but only now am really starting to realise just how good it is. Well, it's not a bad follow-up, all things considered. Still a storming album - though the lack of positive press in the UK worries me. Hanging on, an all time treasure. A treasure for all times. Starts off so unbelievably well! March 2002 an atmospheric and strong second album proper yeah, i think i've got into this now :) i actually bought this a while ago. only now do i find myself loving it. a great pulp album. there really are some great moments on this promising debut a fine, classic doors album, of course! although i don't generally adore live albums - this is certainly a keeper you're lost little girl really is a fantastic song. my very second yes album! my very second king crimson album! a year of prog! melodic, winning and charming February 2002 a live album that exceeds all expectations the first of many doors albums this month! the second of many doors albums this month! an album by a brand new english group, name taken from the doors. britpop influenced i was slower to get into this, but i have now they sound like the verve! that's cool with me a softer doors album but still pretty darn good knocked down by a plethora of new entries more progressive rock! yikes! a big drop but yeah. i still like this! January 2002 a great debut by a new rock band. check it out! i've seen this dissed by a few people. i love listening to this! crikey! replaces 'Jethro Tull' in this months list. i wasn't expecting to like this, but i find myself loving this. my first impressions of this have been proved wrong. a great album yet more rush in this months chart! even more rush in this months chart. my favourite rush albums, i guess the white stripes album shows staying power. not quite, but a damn enjoyable noisy rock album still hanging on in there! this was one of my favourites when I was very young. both rockin' and romantic! does that explain a few things about my musical tastes? |
