    A truly beautiful thing, and Beck surprises us again.

  • 3 Sail Away - Randy Newman ( new entry )
    Randy is something special, alright!

  • 4 Scarlet's Walk - Tori Amos ( down 3 )
    Tori is alive and well! Scarlet's Walk provides much enjoyment.

  • 5 Aqualung - Jethro Tull ( new entry )
    Dug this one out and loved it.

  • 6 Anglicana - Eliza Carthy ( down 4 )
    Folk babe does it again? Yeah, she does.

    There's just something about this record that's staying with me.

    Unusual? Yes. Good? Yes, it's still good.

    Well, it's known to longterm readers that The Beach Boys are my number one all time artists. Tori is second. She's second! To The Beach Boys? Yes!! I love Tori, so of course i've bloody been listening to her new album loads. What do you take me for at all?!

    Eliza is back, back, back! What do you mean you've never heard of her? Dammit!

    Another great new UK group with absolutely no worldwide profile.

    They dress in white-robes and sound like a wet-dream.

  • 3 Relayer - Yes ( new entry )
    CHA-CHA-CHA CHA CHA! This is stupendous stuff!

  • 4 Alice - Tom Waits ( non mover )
    Album of the year for me, no question.

  • 5 The Coral - The Coral ( non mover )
    A durable debut from the new kids in Liverpool.

  • 6 Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots - The Flaming Lips ( new entry )
    Slow to get into this, slow, slow. I'm starting to love it, though.

  • 7 Drink Me - Queen Adreena( new entry )
    KITTY SING MY SONG! She shouts. And then she whispers. It works.

  • 8 Sea Change - Beck ( new entry )
    As slow an album as is imaginable, but not without merit.

  • 9 Horse Of The Dog - Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster ( new entry )
    Would have charted higher, but I only got it 6 days ago.

    The first three songs are all great!

  • 1 Who's Next - The Who ( new entry )
    it seems i have a new favourite who album.

  • 2 Sunshine Hit Me - The Bees ( new entry )
    a startling mix of styles. reggae and the beach boys, anyone?

  • 3 Full House - Fairport Convention ( new entry )
    sandy was no more, but richard was only just getting started!

  • 4 Alice - Tom Waits ( down 2 )
    it's still here, dreamy as ever

  • 5 The Coral - The Coral ( up 5 )
    a number of standout tunes help this record no end.

  • 6 The Beginning Stages Of - The Polyphonic Spree ( new entry )
    a twenty five voice choir with songs influenced by the flaming lips

  • 7 Tommy - The Who ( new entry )
    i spent some time listening to this, if only so I could understand it better

  • 8 Alladin Sane - David Bowie( down 7 )
    a big drop, but then we've had five new entries

  • 9 Heathen Chemistry - Oasis ( down 5 )
    not as good as 'definitely maybe' after all, but still fine.

  • 10 Joe's Garage - Frank Zappa ( down 3 )
    what, Joe's Garage drops? it doesn't sail to number one like other Zappa's have?

  • 1 Alladin Sane - David Bowie ( new entry )
    a surprise number one? nah, it's a mighty album

  • 2 Alice - Tom Waits ( down 1 )
    tom fails to hold on for a third month

  • 3 Highly Evolved - The Vines ( new entry )
    it may not be clever, but it's good!

  • 4 Heathen Chemistry - Oasis ( down 1 )
    very easy to listen to, very enjoyable

  • 5 Untouchables - Korn ( down 3 )
    it sounds magnificent

  • 6 By The Way - Red Hot Chili Peppers ( new entry )
    not usually a fan of the group, but this is a fine effort

  • 7 Joe's Garage - Frank Zappa ( up 1 )
    slowly but surely, it's sinking in!

  • 8 Uncle Meat - Frank Zappa ( re-entry )
    i've never really thought so highly of this, but i've been playing it a lot lately

  • 9 Diamond Dogs - David Bowie ( new entry )
    riding on the coat-tails of alladin sane....

  • 10 The Coral - The Coral ( new entry )
    just arrived, but it sounds strange enough to be good!

  • 1 Alice – Tom Waits ( non mover )
    it's dreamy weather.....

  • 2 Untouchables - Korn ( new entry )
    very heavy, very dark - still melodic. definitely amongst their best work

  • 3 Heathen Chemistry - Oasis ( new entry )
    a fine return to form. liam doesn't embarass himself. what more could you want?!

  • 4 Da Capo - Love ( new entry )
    absolutely wonderful.... well, all apart from the last song!

  • 5 In The Land Of Grey And Pink – Caravan ( new entry )
    utterly charming melodies, wonderfully english atmosphere

  • 6 Storytelling – Belle And Sebastian ( down 4 )
    no, it's not quite their best work, but there are at least three classic songs here!

  • 7 Forever Changes - Love ( down 4 )
    forever changes holding on for another month, during it's second charting year.

  • 8 Joes Garage – Frank Zappa ( new entry )
    not fully had time to digest this yet. another daft zappa extravaganza!

  • 9 Fischerspooner #1 – Fischerspooner ( down 5 )
    well, they aint stars yet. shame on you all!

  • 10 The Yes Album – Yes ( down 3 )
    if this is falling off the chart, it's about time i bought another Yes album!

  • 1 Alice – Tom Waits ( up 6 )
    he's only gone and done it again!

  • 2 Storytelling – Belle And Sebastian ( new entry )
    a reversal of the decline? whatever, a great little album.

  • 3 Forever Changes - Love ( re-entry )
    a 'love' affair begins!!! bad pun alert!!

  • 4 Fischerspooner #1 – Fischerspooner ( new entry )
    an astonishing re-invention of new romantic music

  • 5 Blood Money – Tom Waits ( up 3 )
    with two new albums, one was always gonna get less plays

  • 6 Vapor Trails – Rush ( new entry)
    lots of good new records this month

  • 7 The Yes Album – Yes ( up 3 )
    i haven't forgotten Yes. i'll get everything soon!

  • 8 Station To Station – David Bowie ( new entry )
    the best of the eight bowie albums i bought this month! a split in airplay!

  • 9 It – Pulp ( new entry )
    a lot better than i was expecting

  • 10 Fragile – Yes ( down 9 )
    the drop is entirely down to the nature of this months chart

    It's always great when you discover a new favourite band, isn't it?

  • 2 Waiting For Columbus – Little Feat ( new entry )
    The immortal Little Feat. Re-issued and re-mastered

  • 3 Handcream For A Generation – Cornershop ( non mover )
    Well, so far - one of the albums of the year. No question

  • 4 Original Pirate Material – The Streets ( down 3 )
    What does it amount to? I'm not sure now. Still good though!

  • 5 Abbey Road – The Beatles ( new entry )
    The last Beatles album I bought. I'm still missing 'Beatles For Sale'

  • 6 We Love Life – Pulp ( down 4 )
    The trees, those useless trees, they feel the air, that we are breathing.

  • 7 Alice – Tom Waits ( new entry )
    Low entry due to it's late arrival before this list was compiled.

  • 8 Blood Money – Tom Waits ( new entry )

    Very strange, beatlesque pop.

    An astonishing debut by a genre transcending new musical talent from Birmingham, England

  • 2 we love life – pulp ( up 1 )
    Gets better and better every listen.

  • 3 Handcream For A Generation – Cornershop ( new entry )
    A fun filled ray of sunshine and also they best thing they've done.

  • 4 fragile – yes ( up 4 )
    Whoa, do I love Yes!

  • 5 Foxtrot – Genesis ( new entry )
    For 'Suppers Ready' alone - an astonshing piece of work.

  • 6 rings around the world – super furry animals ( re-entry )
    Bought this long ago, but only now am really starting to realise just how good it is.

  • 7 in the wake of poseidon – King Crimson ( up 2 )
    Well, it's not a bad follow-up, all things considered.

  • 8 Walking With Thee – Clinic ( down 7 )
    Still a storming album - though the lack of positive press in the UK worries me.

  • 9 Live At The Roxy Theatre – Brian Wilson ( down 3 )
    Hanging on, an all time treasure. A treasure for all times.

  • 10 L.A.Woman – The Doors ( down 5 )
    Starts off so unbelievably well!

  • 1 Walking With Thee – Clinic ( new entry )
    an atmospheric and strong second album proper

  • 2 In The Court Of King Crimson - King Crimson ( up 7 )
    yeah, i think i've got into this now :)

  • 3 we love life – pulp ( new entry )
    i actually bought this a while ago. only now do i find myself loving it. a great pulp album.

  • 4 holes in the wall – electric soft parade ( non mover )
    there really are some great moments on this promising debut

  • 5 L.A.Woman – The Doors ( non mover )
    a fine, classic doors album, of course!

  • 6 Live At The Roxy Theatre – Brian Wilson ( down 5 )
    although i don't generally adore live albums - this is certainly a keeper

  • 7 Strange Days – The Doors ( down 4 )
    you're lost little girl really is a fantastic song.

    my very second king crimson album! a year of prog!

    a live album that exceeds all expectations

    the first of many doors albums this month!

    the second of many doors albums this month!

  • 4 holes in the wall – electric soft parade ( new entry )
    an album by a brand new english group, name taken from the doors. britpop influenced

  • 5 la woman – the doors ( new entry )
    i was slower to get into this, but i have now

  • 6 black rebel motorcycle club – black rebel motorcycle club ( new entry )
    they sound like the verve! that's cool with me

  • 7 waiting for the sun – the doors ( new entry )
    a softer doors album but still pretty darn good

  • 8 fake sound of progress – Lost Prophets ( down 7 )
    knocked down by a plethora of new entries

  • 9 in the court of king crimson – King Crimson ( new entry )
    more progressive rock! yikes!

  • 10 Oracle - Kittie ( down 8 )
    a big drop but yeah. i still like this!

    a great debut by a new rock band. check it out!

  • 2 Oracle - Kittie ( new entry )
    i've seen this dissed by a few people. i love listening to this!

  • 3 Close To The Edge - Yes ( new entry )
    crikey! replaces 'Jethro Tull' in this months list. i wasn't
    expecting to like this, but i find myself loving this.

  • 4 Drukqs - Aphex Twin ( non mover )
    my first impressions of this have been proved wrong. a great album

  • 5 Fly By Night - Rush ( up 1 )
    yet more rush in this months chart!

  • 6 Permanent Waves - Rush ( down 1 )
    even more rush in this months chart. my favourite rush albums, i guess

  • 7 white blood cells – white stripes ( up 2 )
    the white stripes album shows staying power.

  • 8 your new favourite band – the hives ( new entry )
    not quite, but a damn enjoyable noisy rock album

  • 9 Is This It - The Strokes ( down 1 )
    still hanging on in there!

  • 10 Bat Out Of Hell - Meat Loaf ( re-entry )
    this was one of my favourites when I was very young. both rockin' and romantic!
    does that explain a few things about my musical tastes?
