The year in full

December 2003

  • 1 Country On The Click - The Fall ( new entry )
The 900th line-up of The Fall do the buisness. Oh yes!

  • 2 Reality - David Bowie ( up 3 )
It's an album that's immediate, easy to like. More fun than 'Heathen', actually. Best bowie in years? Well, it's been said so often.

  • 3 Jeff - Jeff Beck ( down 2 )
Slightly obsessed, as I am, with the modern Jeff Beck sound, that 'Jeff' sticks around pretty high for another month.

  • 4 Worldwide Underground - Erykah Badu ( up 2 )
Beautiful, an initial throwaway feel gives way to leave songs with lasting appeal.
    - Alicia Keys ( new entry )
A deft mix of fantasy and genuine soul. A very talented lady.

  • 7 Cool As - Inspiral Carpets ( new entry )
Publically they were the third ( slightly uncool compared to er, we have the opening two 'stages', the first of which opens with strings and Piano, an extended song introduction that sounds so delicate and soft it surely doesn't exist in the same mor )
You know what's a beautiful song? 'Scatterbrain'.

  • 9 1972 - Josh Rouse ( down 5 )
A clutch of magnificent songs is enough for our Josh.

  • 10 Heathen - David Bowie ( new entry )
I wasn't all that strne something new. The full choir of voices that explode through 'Overture, Holiday' certainly make themselves heard, trumpet accompanies them, the Piano continues, add in belbr> There is a song here called 'Seasons'. It mixes classical, dance and rock guitar god. It's magical stuff, truly it is.

  • 2 Village Green Preservation Society - The Kinks ( new entry )
Well, of course. I've been listening to this album whilst doihoir of voices, a lead vocal enters sounding very Mercury Rev / Flaming Lips, Trumpet carries on where it left off from the opening track, everything is very Sy( down 2 )
I've put this on a PC at work. Broadcast to help sell PC's? Not sure it does, but it's sure nice to hear them!

  • 4 1972 - Josh Rouse ( down 1 )
    Do the love vibration.

  • 5 Reality - David Bowie ( up 2 )
New Killer Star is the besongs, sort of a Beach Boys 1968 kind of 'post ambition' vibe. Having said that, the mere idea of this record is ambitious. 'Days Like This' has aod.

  • 7 Crocodiles - Echo And The Bunnymen ( new entry )
The re-issue campaign has led to me discovering this small gem.

  • 8 Hail To The Thief - Radiohead ( down 4 )
    Better than coldplay!

  • 9 Heaven Up H I called one of the most beautiful i'd ever heard. In contrast, stage four is a two minute blast of noisy drums, noisy vocals, all ks ( new entry )
More Kinks, as I start to dangerously obsess.

    October 2003

  • 1 Ha Ha Sound - Broadcast ( non mover )
It's as good as it gets lately. That's pretty fine then?? Well, yeah.

  • 2 Jeff the sound of the rest of the and 'Soldier Girl' an absolute highlight, a life-affirming string arrangement, simple yete speaks with his guitar!

  • 3 1972 - Josh Rouse ( new entry )
A first month entry for Josh, not his last, I suspect.

  • 4 Hail To The Thief - Radiohead ( up 1 )
It's quality, what can I say?

  • 5 Worldwide Undea point for the final song, a remarkable thirty six minutes of pure nonsense vocal noises heavily muckeef="kingsofleon.html">Youth And Young Manhood - Kings Of Leon ( down 4 )
Hanging on in there. A winner!

  • 7 Reality - David Bowie ( new entry )
Not quite sure if this is style over substance, but whatever. Sounds good to me!

For 'The Carpet Crawlers' alone - let alone the other twenty plus songs!

  • 3 Pet Projects - Brian Wilsoin@hotmail.com
I can see where your coming from with this review, the album is overproduced and over arranged at times, and it gets a bit much on songs like "Oh I Feel Fine". But it seems like that has clouded your judgement on what is still a very good album in my opinion. Thele ambition.
