The Pipettes
We Are The Pipettes 6½ ( 2006 )
We Are The Pipettes / Pull Shapes / Why Did You Stay / Dirty Mind / It Hurts To See You Dance So Well / Judy / Winters Sky / Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me / Tell Me What You Want / Because It's Not Love (But It's Still A Feeling) / Sex / One Night Stand / ABC / I Love You
Sugar treats are nice in moderation.
Too much sensation can dull a set of ears.
We all have our thoughts and fears, so here are mine.
The Pipettes at first seem fine.
Hair brushes and talcum powder.
Pop to go, harmonies, sense of nostalgia.
I want to loudly scream half-way through
and listen to something new.
Producers and writers help the project end.
Bedroom mirrors, singing with your friends.
Enough of rhyme and sweetness.
A means of comparison to further dull the senses.
The Pipettes provide a unlikely dream.
Falling by default into the indie scene.
Plastic groups of girls, waving of arms and hands.
They’ll live or die by the sugar we can stand.

Danny danny@leftoffthedial.com Well stated...I too am nervous about this band's longevity. I love the fun this band has, and I eat up the girl group nostalgia. How much of this nostalgia the current indie scene can handle--I worry about. But The Pipette's album, though not flawless by any means, hits a few marks so perfectly with just a dash of originality that I'd be lying if I didn't mention that for now "Pull Shapes" and "You're Kisses..." are the most fun brand new singles I've heard since god knows when. |
