A bit of punk rock to open with this month and don't they sound groovy? Yes, it's The Cute Lepers - their debut album has been spinning around a lot in the Denning household, I can tell you. It's been a funny old month or so. Loads and loads of mediocre albums not going anywhere and with only the barest of signs that 2008 is going to be a year worth remembering. Thank you Bloc Party then and also thank you Rosabella Gregory. She's firmly in Tori Amos mould, but we don't mind that.

A couple of deaths during the past month(s). Chef from South Park? Yeah, Isaac Hayes passed away from a stroke. His influence runs through to rap, hip-hop and r&b - as shown by this guest spot with the Wu Tang Clan.

Quite a few, isn't there? I'm just one man - will the music never end?!? Ah, I love it, really. Wouldn't have it any other way but it does restrict the amount of old music I can listen to and review. Don't worry Richard Thompson fans, i'll still squeeze in a few more of his. Any preferences though, new music fans? Which of the above tickles your ear lobes and slinks around your spine? Funnily enough, it's Bloc Party for me. Third album time for them and third album time is often make or break, isn't it? So, it's good to see Bloc Party trying something a little adventurous.

Vintage Clip Of The Month

This month we have a Joe Meek production, a number one smash hit courtesy of actor/singer John Leyton. The haunting song isn't exactly served well by this video clip - but there's diamond and gold for Meek and Leyton fans in this sequence of clips from the early Sixties. Which reminds me, I must track down that Meek documentary the BBC did years ago that set me off on this particularly weird journey.
